William Morris, 1875’s Marigold was conceived as both a wallpaper and a fabric. This is probably because the endlessly entwining stems and meandering contours of the willow and marigold design form a relatively small repeat, allowing its reproduction over a smaller space. This compact design cloaks the curvature of furniture items as a fabric whilst also introducing depth and drama to walls as a wallpaper.

As an interior architect and designer working today, Ben feels irresistibly drawn to Marigold’s versatility – he has reworked Marigold 10 times across his two collaboration collections with Morris & Co. From zesty yellows to moody darks, rustic finishes and crafted touches, Ben has reinterpreted Marigold into the design for all seasons. Read on to discover more.

We love this amazing interpretation of our Willow Bough fabric, originally designed by William Morris in 1887. Coloured by Ben Pentreath, rich, saturated combinations introduce a new perspective to the pattern’s timeless entwining stems and delicate willow leaves. Produced on a cotton/linen blend, this design looks fantastic on furniture.
